Is Atlas AVD HIPAA compliant?

Atlas AVD is architected to support HIPAA-aligned deployments: it installs into your own Azure subscription, holds no protected health information outside your tenant, encrypts stored credentials, and records a complete audit trail of environment changes. Compliance is a property of your whole environment rather than any single tool, so your security team remains the arbiter; Atlas is designed to give them the controls and evidence they need.

Does any patient data leave our Azure environment?

No. Atlas deploys into your subscription via ARM templates and reads from your own instance. Session data, profile data, and clinical application data stay in your tenant.

Can we run EHR and imaging applications on Atlas-managed hosts?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Atlas manages standard Azure Virtual Desktop session hosts, so anything that runs on Windows multi-session or single-session runs here. Image Management lets you bake validated EHR, PACS, and imaging clients into a versioned golden image and roll it out consistently.

How do you handle patching without disrupting clinical care?

DrainGuard™ puts a host into drain mode, waits for its sessions to end naturally, then patches and returns it to service. Maintenance rolls through the pool host by host, so clinicians are never disconnected mid-session.

Will this work for our satellite clinics?

Yes. You can place host pools in the Azure regions closest to each site, and Smart Connect™ recommends the most responsive one to each clinician when they open the portal; latency is measured from their own browser, so a remote clinic gets pointed at the right desktop without a dedicated circuit.
