Frequently asked questions
How is Atlas AVD priced?
$199 per tenant. Unlimited AVD users. Every AVD feature. Add MSP capabilities for $50 per tenant. There is one paid plan, Atlas AVD, at $199 per licensed tenant per month with every Azure Virtual Desktop feature and no minimum beyond one tenant. MSP Capabilities is an optional upgrade at $50 per tenant per month for Atlas Command and white-label branding, billed for every licensed tenant. Community is free for one tenant. One tenant is $199 a month, five are $995, and ten with MSP Capabilities are $2,490. AVD users, session hosts, host pools and technician seats are never billed.
What counts as a tenant?
A tenant is a Microsoft Entra directory your Atlas deployment manages. Every managed tenant counts toward your licensed quantity, including your own home tenant and a tenant that only uses Atlas Reach. Azure subscriptions inside a tenant are not counted separately.
What does MSP Capabilities add?
MSP Capabilities is an optional upgrade to Atlas AVD at $50 per licensed tenant per month. It adds Atlas Command (the all-tenants console with cross-tenant analytics and license usage per tenant), MSP branding and the full white-label package. It is account-wide: when it is on, it applies to every tenant you license and is billed for the same tenant count as your plan. It unlocks no other feature: every AVD feature is already in Atlas AVD.
Can Atlas AVD manage more than one tenant?
Yes. License Atlas AVD for as many tenants as you manage and switch between them in the console, one at a time. Their included units pool into one shared bucket. Atlas Command, which shows every tenant at once with cross-tenant analytics, comes with the MSP Capabilities upgrade.
What happens when I reach my licensed tenant quantity?
Your existing tenants keep working. Adding another tenant waits until you raise your tenant quantity; Atlas never removes or disables a tenant you already manage. You can change the quantity whenever you need to.
What is a unit, and what uses one?
A unit is one unit of metered activity in a billing month, always $1 per unit on every plan. Azure Virtual Desktop is never metered. Four add-on modules are, and they do not all count the same thing: the End User Portal is one unit per distinct active portal user per month; Atlas Ink is one unit per distinct active signature user per month; Atlas Reach is one unit per month per managed device that is not an AVD session host, so only an AVD session host in a synced host pool is free and every other device, an Azure VM that is not a session host included, is a unit; and Atlas Spool is five units per managed printer, charged once in the month the printer is created. Atlas Resolve, the DNS filter that runs on the Atlas Reach agent, uses no units of its own: it is included with Atlas Reach. The per-user modules count independently, so a person active in the End User Portal and in Atlas Ink in the same month is two units, and within one module a person is never more than one unit per month. Each subscription includes a monthly allowance of units, one bucket pooled across all four metered modules and every managed tenant (10 units a month on Community and 50 units per licensed tenant a month on Atlas AVD). Units are prepaid, never billed after the fact: when the pool is used up, the metered modules pause new usage until you add more units. What consumes a unit differs by module. End User Self-Service Portal: One unit for each distinct end user who signs into the portal at least once in the calendar month, counted once per user per month however often they sign in. Atlas Ink: One unit for each distinct user whose managed signature is applied to their mailbox during the calendar month, counted once per user per month however many templates apply. Atlas Reach: One unit per calendar month for every managed device the agent is installed on that is not an AVD session host: physical Windows, Mac, and Linux endpoints, Azure VMs that are not session hosts (a jump box, a file server, a dev or IaaS VM), and virtual machines that run outside Azure. Only an AVD session host is free: any session host in a host pool Atlas has synced, however much Reach is used on it. A session host not yet in your synced inventory is billed like any other managed device until it is. Each attended Quick Support session (a technician actually connects) is also one unit; a support code nobody joins is free. Atlas Spool: Five units for each managed printer, charged once in the month the printer is created. It is a one-time charge per printer, not a recurring monthly one. Your included units are one pooled allowance per subscription per calendar month, shared across every metered module and every tenant you manage: on Atlas AVD, each licensed tenant adds its allowance to the same pool. Atlas Spool's one-time printer units draw on the same bucket as portal, signature, and device usage. Any units you buy are added to that same pool. Each subscription's allowance is a pooled monthly bucket (10 units a month on Community and 50 units per licensed tenant a month on Atlas AVD), and Azure Virtual Desktop itself (AVD users, session hosts, host pools and the management plane) is never metered.
Which plans include Atlas Advisor?
Every plan includes Atlas Advisor at no additional charge: the free Community plan and Atlas AVD, with or without MSP Capabilities. Atlas Advisor is Atlas AVD's built-in assistant that helps administrators optimize Azure Virtual Desktop environments, reduce costs, improve performance, troubleshoot issues, and answer common operational questions out of the box, or anything in natural language once you connect your own ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or Azure OpenAI key. It is part of the platform, not a paid add-on or a separate SKU. Atlas Advisor uses your own AI provider: bring your ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or Azure OpenAI key. Atlas never receives your Advisor conversations or marks up AI usage.
Is Atlas Advisor included on the free Community plan?
Yes, in full. The free Community plan includes the complete Atlas Advisor: built-in answers to common questions, unlimited recommendations, and, on your own AI key, plain-language conversations about your environment, with full parity to every paid plan. There is no capped or limited preview; Community gets the same assistant Atlas AVD does, at no charge.
Does Atlas Advisor cost extra?
No. Atlas Advisor is included with every plan, Community included, and Atlas charges nothing per conversation, per query, per recommendation, or per technician for using it, subject to fair-use and platform terms. The one cost to know about is your own AI provider's: Advisor's AI conversations run on the ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or Azure OpenAI key you bring, and that provider bills its own usage at its own rates. Atlas never marks it up. Without a key, Advisor still answers a built-in set of questions about your environment.
Do I need my own AI key to use Atlas Advisor?
For AI conversations, yes. Atlas does not host an AI model: you connect your own provider (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or Azure OpenAI, including Azure Government) from Advisor's AI settings or the setup wizard, and Advisor talks to it directly from your Atlas deployment. Atlas never receives your questions, tool results, or answers, and admins control which data classes can be sent to the provider. To keep AI fully inside your tenant, use your own Azure OpenAI resource. Without a key, Advisor answers a fixed set of built-in questions about your environment.
Does Atlas Advisor change my environment on its own?
No. Atlas Advisor is read-only: it reads your environment, answers, and recommends the fix, and it never makes a change itself. Your team makes every change, with Atlas's own tools and the audit trail every change gets.
What is Atlas Ink and how is it priced?
Atlas Ink is Atlas's managed email signature product: administrators author signature templates, assign them to the whole tenant, a group, or an individual user, and Atlas pushes the finished signature into each user's Microsoft 365 mailbox. You can run it standalone on the free Community plan with prepaid units (on its own, without a paid Atlas AVD plan) and it is also included with every Atlas AVD plan, Community and Atlas AVD alike, with no purchase or activation fee. In Azure commercial it is usage-billed in units: one unit per active user, per month (always $1 per unit), counting only users who have a managed signature applied that month. Atlas Ink and the End User Portal are metered independently, so a user active in both in the same month is two units. GCC High and Azure Government are on the roadmap (Atlas Ink runs in Azure commercial today and fails closed for sovereign clouds), and when they ship they will be priced the same as commercial: one unit per active user, per month, always $1 per unit.
Does GCC High or Azure Government cost more than Azure Commercial?
No. Atlas AVD is priced the same in every Azure cloud: the plan you choose costs exactly what it does in Azure Commercial, and metered units are always $1 per unit regardless of cloud. We don't think you should pay a premium just because your organization is required to run in GCC High or Azure Government. GCC High support is currently being validated end to end and is coming soon; join the GCC High waitlist and, when it opens, the pricing you see today is the pricing you'll get.
Can I use Atlas AVD just as an RMM?
Yes. Atlas Reach, the RMM in the Atlas agent, works on every plan, and each managed device is one unit a month, with its Atlas Resolve DNS filtering included at no extra units. Only AVD session hosts in synced host pools are free; every other device, an Azure VM that is not a session host included, is a unit. On Atlas AVD, each licensed tenant includes 50 units a month in a shared pool, and extra units are $1 each, prepaid. An MSP managing customers' endpoints licenses each customer tenant the same way, and can add MSP Capabilities for Atlas Command across all of them.
Is there a discount for prepaying?
Yes. Atlas AVD can be billed monthly, or prepaid in full up front for one, two, or three years at 10%, 15%, or 20% off the monthly rate. The discount covers your whole subscription: the per-tenant price, MSP Capabilities when it is on, and the usage units in your plan. Prepaid terms can also be paid by invoice (wire transfer or purchase order). For example, Atlas AVD is $199 per tenant per month, or prepaid $2,149.20 per tenant for one year instead of $2,388, $4,059.60 for two years, or $5,731.20 for three years. The prices shown on the site are the monthly rate.
Can I manage customer organizations with Atlas AVD?
Not on Community, which is licensed for internal use within your own organization only. On Atlas AVD every tenant you manage is a licensed tenant, a customer's tenant included, and you switch between them one at a time. MSP Capabilities adds Atlas Command, cross-tenant analytics and your own branding across all of them. Your use of Atlas AVD is governed by the Terms of Service.
What support is included?
Product support is free on Atlas AVD: bugs, errors, a feature that does not work as documented, and licensing or billing questions, by email or an in-app ticket. Atlas Advisor answers first, and our team follows up during US business hours on a best-effort basis. Product support is the same for every customer, whatever the size of the deployment: it is not prioritized by tenant or user count, and it covers Atlas itself, not designing, building or running your environment. When a request goes beyond a product issue, we will say so and offer support hours instead. Community is supported through the documentation and Atlas Advisor. Hands-on help is sold as prepaid support hours: troubleshooting your own environment, configuration, onboarding, migrations, training, and screen-share sessions with our team. Support hours are $200 an hour, sold as prepaid blocks of 5 hours for $1,000 or 10 hours for $1,800, each usable for 12 months from purchase. To buy a block of hours, contact support. No plan includes a guaranteed response time, 24×7 coverage, a phone line, or a service level agreement. All support is provided by US persons located in the United States.
How many technicians or admins can use Atlas AVD?
Every plan includes unlimited technician seats. You can add as many admins, engineers, and technicians to Atlas AVD as you need. There is no per-technician or per-seat charge for the people who operate the platform. This is separate from AVD end users and applies to Community and Atlas AVD alike, subject to fair-use and platform terms.
What does white labeling include?
White labeling lets you present Atlas AVD under your own brand: your company logo, brand name, brand colors, support contact information, a custom login experience, and a custom domain where supported. White labeling comes with the optional MSP Capabilities upgrade to Atlas AVD.
Can MSPs manage customers under their own brand?
Yes. The MSP Capabilities upgrade adds white-label branding and Atlas Command to Atlas AVD, so you can deliver Atlas-powered AVD management to your customers under your own logo, name, and look and feel. How you package, price, or bill your own managed services to your customers is entirely your decision. MSP Capabilities does not include reselling, sublicensing, or redistributing the Atlas AVD software itself, and there is no in-app reselling.
Can an MSP use its own logo and company name?
Yes. MSP Capabilities lets you configure your own logo, brand name, colors, and support details so the platform your customers see is branded as your managed service.
Is Atlas AVD installed in the customer's Azure tenant?
Atlas AVD deploys into Azure via ARM templates and reads data directly from each managed environment. Customer Azure infrastructure and data remain in the customer's own tenant under their ownership.
Who owns the customer's Azure resources and data?
The customer. Atlas AVD does not take ownership of customer Azure resources or data. All AVD resources are deployed into the customer's Azure subscription and remain under their control.
Does white labeling transfer ownership of Atlas intellectual property?
No. White labeling controls customer-facing branding only. It does not transfer ownership of the Atlas AVD software or any Atlas AVD intellectual property, which remain owned by Atlas AVD. Atlas AVD is still acknowledged in legal, licensing, administrative, and required attribution areas.
Can MSP customers use a custom domain?
Custom domains are supported with MSP Capabilities, where available, so your customers can access the branded platform under a domain you control.
Can I change plans later?
Yes. You can move between Community and Atlas AVD, change your tenant quantity, and turn MSP Capabilities on or off whenever you need to. Adding tenants or turning MSP Capabilities on takes effect straight away; on a prepaid term, lowering the quantity, turning MSP Capabilities off or moving to Community takes effect at renewal, and on monthly billing it takes effect straight away. Atlas never removes or disables a tenant you already manage: if your new quantity is below the tenants you manage, they stay accessible, and adding another tenant waits until you are within the quantity.
What happens if I cancel?
If you cancel your subscription, one thing to know if you use Atlas Ink: managed signatures live on your mailboxes, so they stay in place after billing ends until an admin removes them. Atlas never removes them on its own. If you don't want to keep them, remove them from Atlas Ink before your subscription ends (each mailbox goes back to the signature it had before) or remove them in Microsoft 365 at any time.
