Stop Using Units: Turn Off Metered Products

How to stop Atlas AVD using units by switching off the End User Portal, Atlas Ink, Atlas Reach and Atlas Spool on the Usage Units card, and more.

Turn off a metered product

You need the admin role to change a switch. Everyone else sees the switches but can't change them.

  1. In Atlas AVD, open Administration > Platform > License Overview.
  2. Select the Usage & Consumption tab.
  3. On the Usage Units card, find Metered products. It lists each metered product with a switch.
  4. Turn off the switch for each product you want to stop. To stop all metered usage, turn off all four.

The change applies straight away. A product that isn't on your plan shows Not included in your plan and has no switch to change, because it can't use units anyway. To turn a product back on, turn its switch back on.

What each switch stops

  • End User Portal: nobody can sign in to the portal, including users already counted this month, so no new portal users are counted.
  • Atlas Ink: Atlas stops pushing and re-applying signatures, so no new users are counted. Signatures already in your users' mailboxes stay there. If you want users' original signatures back, remove their assignments and run Provision users before you switch Ink off.
  • Atlas Reach: no new devices can be enrolled, and live actions on billable devices, such as scripts, software deployments and network discovery, are paused. Atlas Resolve DNS filtering stops on those devices too. Verified AVD session hosts are free and aren't affected. Devices that are already enrolled still count, so see the next section.
  • Atlas Spool: no new managed printers can be added. A printer uses units only in the month it is created, so existing printers use no more units.

Atlas Reach: revoke devices to stop their units

An Atlas Reach device counts as one unit in every month it checks in, and switching Atlas Reach off doesn't stop an already-enrolled device from checking in. To stop a device counting from next month on, revoke it:

  1. Open Atlas Reach and go to the Devices tab.
  2. Revoke or delete each device you no longer want to manage. Revoking a device stops it counting toward future months' Reach usage. Verified AVD session hosts are free, so you can leave them enrolled.
  3. Uninstall the agent from those machines. Uninstall the Atlas Reach Agent has the commands for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Each Quick Support session a technician connects to is also one Atlas Reach unit, so don't start new Quick Support sessions while you want Reach usage at zero.

What turning a product off doesn't change

  • Units already counted this month stay counted. A user or device is one unit for the month whether it was active for one day or thirty, so a product you switch off mid-month shows zero from next month.
  • Units you've bought stay in your pool. Unused purchased units keep rolling over while your subscription is active, ready for when you turn a product back on.
  • Your recurring unit pack is still billed. Switching products off stops units being used, not the pack you pay for each month. To pay for fewer units, click Change plan on the License Overview page and lower the Units field in the plan picker. On a prepaid term you can't go below the units you committed to until the term renews.
  • Everything else in Atlas keeps running. Host pools, scaling, reports and every other feature use no units and aren't affected.

Check that usage has stopped

The Usage Units card (and the Usage Units widget on the dashboard) shows how many units each product has used this month. After you switch products off, a product's count stops going up. From the first of next month (UTC), switched-off products, and Atlas Reach once its billable devices are revoked, show zero.
