Buying More Units

How to buy more Atlas AVD units (resize your recurring unit pack or add a one-time top-off) and how rollover works.

Two ways to buy more units

There are two ways to add units, for two different needs:

  • Add a one-time top-off: buy extra units without changing your plan or your monthly commitment. In Atlas AVD, open Administration > Platform > License Overview and click Add units on the Usage Units card. (When your pool is down to its last couple of units, the dashboard's Usage Units widget shows the same Add units button.) The plan picker opens on Need more units?: enter the Units to add, accept the terms, and click Buy units.
  • Resize your recurring unit pack: change how many units are billed with your subscription every month. On the same page, click Change plan (Choose a plan once a trial has ended). In the plan picker, set the Units field, review the total, and click Continue to payment. Use this when you are short every month, not just once.

Both open the Atlas plan picker in a new tab and are paid through Stripe: a one-time top-off by card, and a plan or recurring pack by card or ACH, or an invoice on a prepaid term. There is no Azure Marketplace or Azure portal step. A new plan or pack applies within 15 minutes, or straight away if you click Sync plan on the License Overview page. If Atlas can't open the plan picker, Add units stays disabled and shows the reason.

How rollover works

The key rule is that purchased units carry forward, but your plan's included allowance does not:

  • Purchased (prepaid) units in your recurring pack roll over. Units you don't use in a month carry forward to later months while your subscription stays active, so a quiet month's units are there for a busy one.
  • Your plan's included allowance does not roll over. It refreshes at the start of each calendar month. Unused included units do not accumulate; each month starts with that month's fresh allowance.
  • Units are spent from one pooled bucket shared across the End User Portal, Atlas Ink, Atlas Reach, and Atlas Spool. Atlas Resolve DNS filtering is included with Atlas Reach and uses no units of its own.

Rolled-over purchased units are forfeited only if the subscription is cancelled, lapses for non-payment, or moves to the free Community plan. While your subscription is active, they keep accumulating.

One-time top-offs roll over

A one-time top-off adds units to your pool without changing your plan, billing term, or recurring pack.

  • Top-off units are added the moment the payment clears, and unused units carry forward month after month (and across a prepaid subscription's anniversaries) while the subscription is active.
  • Like rolled-over pack units, they are forfeited only if the subscription lapses, is cancelled, or moves to the free Community plan.
  • If you are short every month rather than once, increase your recurring unit pack instead: a top-off is a one-time payment.

Prepaid terms: a pooled year of units

If you choose a prepaid billing term in the plan picker (one, two, or three years), each year's pack units (12 × your monthly count) are yours up front and usable any time until that year's subscription anniversary. Pack units still unspent at an anniversary expire, and each new subscription year starts a fresh year's pool. A prepaid term is paid in full up front at 10% off for one year, 15% off for two years, or 20% off for three years. Your plan's monthly included allowance still refreshes each calendar month, the same as on a monthly term.

Prepaid units stack on your allowance

Purchased units are added on top of your plan's included allowance, never in place of it. For example, on the free Community plan a 10-unit monthly allowance plus a 5-unit prepaid pack gives you 15 units: 10 that refresh each month and 5 purchased units that roll forward.
