Is Atlas AVD suitable for CMMC or NIST 800-171 environments?

Accepted Answer

Atlas is architected to support them: it deploys entirely inside your own Azure subscription in the regions you approve, holds no agency data in vendor infrastructure, encrypts stored credentials, and maintains a complete change history. Certification always applies to your whole environment rather than a single tool, so your assessor remains the authority; Atlas is designed to supply the controls and evidence that assessment depends on.

Can Atlas run in sovereign or government-only Azure regions?

Atlas deploys via ARM templates into the subscription and regions you choose, so it follows your data residency requirements rather than imposing its own.

Does Atlas AVD support Azure GCC High?

Accepted Answer

Not yet — Atlas AVD runs in Azure commercial today, and Azure Government (GCC High) support is coming soon. It is on the roadmap for CMMC and ITAR-regulated tenants that require the sovereign cloud; if that is your enclave, contact us about early access so we can plan around your timeline.

How do you control contractor access?

Contractor desktops can be scoped to their own host pools with dedicated policy, provisioned when an engagement starts and reclaimed when it ends. Access is governed by your Entra ID groups and conditional access policies.

What audit evidence does Atlas produce?

Accepted Answer

Atlas records environment changes chronologically (who changed what and when), and credential retrievals from Atlas Vault are logged. Telemetry can also be forwarded to Azure Log Analytics for long-term retention and custom queries.

Question 6

Does Atlas need standing privileged access to our tenant?

Accepted Answer

Atlas operates through an Azure app registration with the permissions its functions require, deployed and owned by you. You control the registration, can review its permissions at any time, and can revoke it from your own tenant.
