Setting Change: Rolling Replace Batch Size

Rolling Replace Batch Size: how many session hosts a Rolling Replace takes on at once, as a number of hosts or a percentage of the pool.

Before you begin

  • A Super Administrator or platform operator, to decide in Review settings or to change the Global value
  • Tenant administrators can still set the batch size for their own tenant or host pool in the Configuration Matrix

What changes if you choose the new default

The batch size is either a number of hosts (for example 5) or a percentage of the pool (for example 10%). A percentage is rounded up and is always at least one host. With the new default of 10%:

  • A 30-host pool replaces 3 hosts at once
  • A 100-host pool replaces 10 hosts at once
  • A 500-host pool replaces 20 hosts at once, the most any Rolling Replace takes on whatever the setting says
  • A pool of 10 hosts or fewer replaces one host at a time

Why it matters

Each host being replaced stops taking new sessions until its replacement is ready. A larger batch finishes sooner. A smaller one keeps more of the pool available to users during the change. A percentage scales that balance with the pool instead of treating a 10-host pool and a 500-host pool the same.

What stays the same

  • Never more than a quarter of the hosts being replaced are taken on at once
  • Hosts are still held back so the pool keeps its autoscale minimum available
  • An immediate Re-Image All is not limited by this setting

How to decide

  1. Open Settings → Matrix. If the update left settings for you to review, the Review settings page opens on its own (or follow the banner at the top of the app).
  2. Under Rolling Replace Batch Size, choose Keep current behavior to stay on 5 hosts at once, or Use the new default to switch to 10%.
  3. Click Save decisions. The choice is saved at Global, so every tenant and host pool that inherits picks it up. Tenants and pools with their own value keep it.

Pools that are busy during the day may want a smaller batch. After saving, override the value on just those host pools in the Configuration Matrix.
