Winget-AutoUpdate keeps third-party software patched on your session hosts, but its evidence lives on each machine, so proving a host is patched, or finding out why an app never updated, means remoting in and reading text files. Winget History brings that record into Atlas and shows you the whole patch history for a VM: which applications updated, from which version to which, when, and whether each attempt succeeded, failed, was skipped, or needs a restart. Collection is agentless and strictly read-only: nothing is installed on the host, and nothing on it is changed.
Key capabilities
- Agentless, read-only collection: nothing installed on the session host, nothing changed on it, and no inbound connectivity required
- Per-application history: previous version, new version, timestamp, outcome, installer exit code, and reboot-required flag
- Update-activity chart and status breakdown over 7, 30, or 90 days, or the full retained history
- Searchable, filterable table with expandable rows showing the original log line and targeted troubleshooting guidance for failures
- Raw log viewer for people with VM management permission, with per-file filtering and in-log search
- History accumulates across Winget-AutoUpdate's own log rotation, so the record outlives the log files
- CSV export for patch-evidence reporting
- Fleet-wide history across every device running the Atlas Reach agent (1.0.116 or later), on Atlas Reach's Software tab
- Clear states for the cases that matter: Winget-AutoUpdate not installed, no logs yet, VM stopped, or missing Azure permissions
How Winget History works
- You open a session host in Atlas AVD and select Refresh History
- Atlas confirms the VM is reachable and healthy before collecting anything
- The update record is collected read-only and turned into structured, per-application events
- New activity is merged into the history Atlas already holds for that host, so the record keeps growing past the point where the host's own logs roll over
- The page renders from the stored history, so reopening the VM is instant and nothing re-runs on the host
