Idle Timeout Shutdown is part of the Autoscale Engine. On each evaluation it tracks every running session host that has no sessions, active or disconnected, and deallocates a host once it has sat empty for five minutes, as long as the pool's capacity floors still hold. This takes forgotten or orphaned session hosts off the meter without a schedule.
Key capabilities
- Deallocates running session hosts that have had zero sessions for five minutes
- Counts disconnected sessions as in use, so a host is never stopped under a user who can reconnect
- Respects the pool's minimum running hosts, free-session buffer and warm idle-host floors
- Drains the host and re-reads its live session count from Azure before deallocating; aborts if anyone connected
- Leaves hosts that Auto On/Off Scheduling turned off alone, and skips hosts the engine just started under load
- Every stop is recorded as a shutdown event with the reason and how long the host sat idle
