Question 1

What does Atlas do?

Accepted Answer

Atlas is an Azure-native IT operations platform built around Azure Virtual Desktop. It handles AVD deployment, governance, scaling, and cost optimization, and extends across endpoint management, IT documentation and credentials, Microsoft 365 email signatures, print management, and guided automation. Everything deploys directly into your Azure subscription via ARM templates and runs from one control plane for day-1 and day-2 operations.

Question 2

Who is Atlas for?

Accepted Answer

Atlas is built for internal IT teams and Managed Service Providers that run on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. Azure Virtual Desktop is the foundation, and the same platform manages endpoints, documentation, signatures, and printing, so one team can operate the whole estate. This includes enterprise IT teams running internal AVD deployments, MSPs managing multiple client tenants, and organizations with strict governance requirements.

Question 3

Is Atlas AVD only for MSPs?

Accepted Answer

No. Atlas AVD supports single-tenant enterprise deployments as well as MSP multi-tenant environments. Enterprise IT teams use Atlas for centralized governance, cost control, and operational automation. MSPs use it to manage multiple client environments from one console with full tenant isolation.

Question 4

Can Atlas AVD help reduce Azure Virtual Desktop costs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Atlas Intelligence includes continuous cost telemetry, adaptive auto-scaling based on actual user behavior, SKU-aware provisioning, and idle resource detection, all aimed at cutting idle compute waste. Actual savings depend on your workload and current configuration. Use the free AVD Cost Calculator to estimate the potential for your environment.

Question 5

How is Atlas AVD different from managing AVD manually?

Accepted Answer

Manual AVD management through the Azure portal or custom scripts requires constant maintenance, has no awareness of quota limits or SKU availability, and provides no operational visibility into cost or session behavior. Atlas AVD adds quota-aware orchestration, adaptive scaling, timeline-based troubleshooting, and automated lifecycle management, so your team spends less time on routine AVD operations and more on higher-value work.

Question 6

Does Atlas AVD store any data outside my Azure environment?

Accepted Answer

No. Atlas AVD reads data directly from each customer-hosted instance. All resources are deployed into your Azure subscription via ARM templates and remain fully under your ownership. No session data, user data, or configuration data is transmitted or stored externally.

Question 7

How quickly can I deploy Atlas AVD?

Accepted Answer

Atlas deploys via ARM templates directly into your Azure subscription in about 10 to 15 minutes. The guided first-run wizard then takes you to your first host pool, which provisions in a few minutes once Azure's resource providers are registered; on a fresh subscription that registration step can take 5 to 30 minutes and is outside Atlas's control. No redesign of your existing AVD infrastructure is required.
